The dangdest thing about swastikas is that they have been used in spiritual
contexts for centuries, if not millenia. They even show up in old Masonic
symbols. Something like a swastika shows up in old Mormon iconography, which
some people say is strongly linked to Masonic rites because Joseph Smith was
a Mason. Swastika-like design elements also show up on Native American Pueblo
"Chiefs" blankets from the turn of the century. I think we are simply not
talking cultural continuity here at all. Unless you see the Nazi eagle with
talons clutching a swastika or find it on a decal or flag, there is no reason
to assume anything.
