After testing various dispersing agents for processing clay
sediments in flotation I have found, much to my surprise,
that distilled or deionized water is by far the most
effective thing to use. My testing indicates that when clay
is put in distilled water, there is an immediate and
continual rise in total dissolved solids concentration
indicating that mineral constituents in the clay are
dissolving. This same test with tap water which has large
amounts of dissolved solids from being in contact with the
enviornment proceeds at a much slower rate.
Has anyone out there run similiar tests or noticed this same
characteristic of distilled water? Ray Dausman
