INFORMAL CALL FOR LUNCHEON ROUNDTABLES AND POSTER/MEDIA SESSIONS
The 2004 SHA Conference on Historical and Underwater Archaeology - St.
Louis, Missouri, USA, would like to encourage the organization of both
poster/media sessions and thematic roundtable luncheons for our upcoming
conference. These activities have been quite popular at past meetings,
providing a relaxed and creative atmosphere for the exchange of information
and ideas.
Poster media sessions can serve as an alternative to giving a standard 10-
or 20-minute oral presentation. Posters/Media displays are free-standing,
mounted exhibits with text and graphics, videotapes, etc., that illustrate
on-going or completed research projects. Bulletin boards will be provided;
electronic equipment needs may be available at an additional charge.
Authors are expected to set up their own displays and be present at their
display during the session. A two-hour time slot will be scheduled for each
poster session. Organizers should fill out an Individual Contribution
Abstract Form (Form 2.A) available from the SHA web site
http://www.sha.org/abstracts.htm - near the bottom of the page. The
deadline for abstract submission is June 15, 2003.
Roundtable luncheons are organized around a broad range of material,
scientific, educational, ethical, and public themes. Past topics have
included: historic burial grounds and cemeteries, issues in underwater
archaeology, women in archaeology, descendant communities, archaeology and
the internet, public archaeology, ceramics, glass, and farmstead sites.
Each roundtable will have a moderator and a maximum of 9 participants
registered on a first-come, first-served basis. You do not have to fill out
any registration forms to organize a roundtable luncheon. If you would like
to host a roundtable luncheon or if you have ideas on topics, please
contact me off-list.
