As someone who has published several hundred books in sociology and an equal
number in anthropology, the differences are more in university structure than in
anything having to do with  research. Traditionally, sociology was more
quantitative, more theoretical, larger scaled studies, more based in the study
of complex western cultures. Over the past couple of decades, it has come to
look more like anthropology and anthropology more like sociology. This is even
more true in applied work. And they read each other's books pretty
indiscriminately, fortunately for me.
