It is interesting to note that this announcement totally dismisses the
unsual "or related fields" statement in its qualifications. Nowhere does
it even mention a focus in "historical archaeology" in the quals, or any
requirment that the candidate be also versed in History, as a true
"historical archaeologist" should be, IMHO.
Oh well, change can be hard and slow.

HISTORICAL ARCHAEOLOGIST
The Louisiana Division of Archaeology has an opening on its staff for a
historical archaeologist.
Duties:
The duties of the historical archaeologist include reviewing
Section 106 projects and reviewing Phase I, II, and III cultural resource
survey reports that include historic archaeological sites; assisting
federal agencies and applicants with compliance issues under Section 106 of
the National Historic Preservation Act; managing the archaeological site
file database, including site record forms and map collections; managing
the library database resulting from CRM surveys; and managing the
division's State permit program.
Qualifications and Selection Process:
This position is available as an Archaeologist I or Archaeologist
II. Minimum requirements for Archaeologist I are a baccalaureate degree in
anthropology with a specialty in archaeology. Minimum requirements for
Archaeologist II are a master's degree in anthropology with a specialty in
archaeology and two years of professional level experience in
archaeological research. Database management experience necessary.
