I would have to say that Tchaikovsky's Sixth symphony is my favourite of
all Tchaikovsky's works and one of my favourite symphonies as well.
I haven't heard Ashkenazy's recording, but I recommend Mikhail Pletnev's
interpretation. It is recorded on the Deutsche Grammophon label, with the
Russian National Orchestra. The catalogue number is 453 450-2.
I doubt the Ashkenazy recording has gone out of print. I'm sure you could
purchase it from an online store though, say cduniverse.com or
musicboulevard.com
