Speaking of "hypovirtuosos" [sic], I miss my old DG recordings of Chopin
played by Stefan Askenase (not noted for his technical prowess), one of
the finest interpreters of Chopin's music ever to make a recording of same.
I have been corresponding with DG and have urged them to remaster and
re-release some of this great artist's recordings in The Originals series.
Askenase's exquisitely prismatic colourings are to me far more revelatory
than A. Rubinstein's wildly overrated pedestrian literalism.
