What! Enough of this "communist" egalitarianism. "Letters after one's name"
do count. For example, I have

Robert L. Schuyler, FCIA-LM (id est = Friends of Cast Iron
Architecture - Life Member)

and I used to have an even better set = Robert L. Schuyler, VIAS-LM (i.e. =
Virgin Island Archaeological Society, Life
Member). Unfortunately the Virgin Island Archaeological Society became
extinct shortly after I took out a Life Membership.

The real question is how many of our colleagues have OBE [is that correct?
- Order of the British Empire] after their
names - speaking of extinct entities. Now that is something to list, not to
forget "Sir" as in Sir Mortimer Wheeler.
How many archaeologists ever had "Sir" in front of their names? I assume
no historical archaeologists have had that
honor (?).

It is obviously late in the summer and next week the students get back on
campus here!

                                                         R.L.S.

P.S. George Miller, thank you for clearing up "terminus post quem" and
"terminus ante quem" [terminus ad quem?]. I was
going to send a message but you took care of it in a very clear fashion. By
the way, the fact that official trash pick up is initiated does not in any
way mean that people stop illegally dumping trash in an area. We had a dump
behind our house in New Have, CT across almost the entire 1950s which was
illegal but active. Has anyone been able to clearly detect the impact of
city or county trash pick up on their sites?
