CONGRATULATIONS. I am sure I speak for all of us who just attended and
returned from
the 36th Annual Conference of the Society for Historical Archaeology in
Rhode Island. The
meetings were a complete success with way over 1,000 attending (final
number ?), very
good papers and sessions, and well organized special events.

We would all like to thank PAL (The Public Archaeology Laboratory, Inc) and
all of the other
members of the Conference Committee in Providence for doing such a good job
and making
our visit so enjoyable.

Providence was a walkable historic town and with the "balmy" temperatures
it was brisk but
educational. The tours I went on (Plymouth and the Pequot Museum) were
excellent and the
free food put on here and there during the conference was a nice gesture.
Mary Beaudry,
our new Awards Committee Chair, did a fine job of organizing a full-slate
ceremony.

I had a good view of the Rhode Island State House from my hotel window and
I did appreciate
how PAL made it snow just enough to remind us we were in New England but
then the next
day melted it all away.

CONGRATULATIONS again and we can all get ready to head for St Louis (2004).

P.S. Pat or Barbara, tell everyone on HISTARCH were SHA will be going in
2004, 2005,
2006 (?), and 2007.
