David Rothstein about the 1942 Toscanini Beethoven 5i:
>The 5th performance mentioned is superb. The entrance to the 4th movement
>is treated as it should be, one of the great moments of music, the triumph
>of human spirit over eternal struggle
Does he point out the trombones the way Klemperer does? The latter simply
overwhelmed me, because it was the first recording I heard that really
showed why Beethoven saved and used the trombones. Such a magnificent,
glorious sound!
