[log in to unmask][log in to unmask], 23 Jul 2002 19:55:37 -0400232_- Dear list members, I'm interested in national and international museums and exhibitions concerning the world of OPERA. Who can help me with tips and links or literature about this topic? Thanks a lot! Robert Pilous37_23Jul200219:55: [log in to unmask]

While browsing over the latest Chandos web pages, I noticed that one of the company's new releases for April is a 2-cd set of Zemlinsky's String Quartets performed by the Schoenberg Quartet. Sure enough, it's the same group of four with an 'e' thrown in. Fortunately, the performances of the two middle string [...]38_9Apr200221:14:[log in to unmask]

What I want to know is why Phillips Duo does not release the middle--to Op74, Harp on their 2 for 1 deal? What would be the hold up? Also, why not release the rest of Colin Davis's Haydn symphonies on the same deal? Anybody have any answers? [...]36_9Apr200217:22:[log in to unmask]
0204 7011 13 26_Re: Ravel's String Quartet11_Donald [log in to unmask], 9 Apr 2002 20:06:01 +0000473_- Virginia Knight asked for recorded recommendations of Ravel's String Quartet. The Alban Berg and Emerson Quartets are common suggestions, and both are coupled with the Debussy String Quartet. Not as well-known, I also go for the Ravel from the Ad Libitum Quartet on Naxos and the Rosamonde on Pierre Verany. Both have the Faure String Quartet for a coupling, and those performances are also excellent. For my money, the Ad Libitum takes the prize. [...]38_9Apr200220:06:[log in to unmask]

The Naxos recording is excellent. The group is - I believe- the Quartet Sine Nomine, and the coupling is the Faure, which I cannot quite get hold of. It is too quiet for me. [...]36_9Apr200216:15:[log in to unmask]

Which, the bleeding or the practising?
I imagine that you are proposing that too much practice would reduce
spontaneity. If so I would beg to disagree. As a performer myself I would say
that on the contrary, true spontaneity in performance can only be achieved in
conditions of complete technical security, hence the need for endless
practice.
