The speed is a consequence of the producer's aberrant concept regarding
recording technology.  John Pfeiffer instructed Heifetz that performing at
usual concert hall speed would put home audiences "to sleep" because of the
lack of usual visual concert hall cues, etc.  I find it to be astounding
that an artist of Heifetz's caliber was amenable to Pfeiffer's suggestion.
It would be indeed interesting and important to learn from any listers who
had the opportunity and good fortune of hearing Heifetz perform these works
"in the flesh".
