Hello Barry,
Most beekeepers are using controls which work .Apistan in places and
Coumaphos (98%).  You will ONLY see pupa being chewed out with hives not
treated chemically. There are simply no varroa to chew out.
Not rocket science! What those pictures tell me is varroa is reproducing in
small cell and those hives have got  a high mite load.
