I have purchased a lot of Mr. Paquin's LP to CD transfers, and his work
is outstanding. These recordings have never sounded so good. If you
love Haydn (how can you not?), you have to have the transfers of the
Max Goberman series. IMHO, these are the finest performances of Haydn
symphonies ever recorded. The transfers seem to be taken directly from
the original LP reissues, and not the rotten CBS/Odyssey reissues which
suppressed the center channel information. Mr. Paquin's transfers have
restored the balance of the originals. Wait until you hear how Goberman
balances his orchestra! After Goberman, Dorati, Fischer, Goodman seem
deadly dull. Pity fate did not permit Goberman the time to complete the
series.
