The cemeteries of the Floyd Family and the people that worked for them are
right next to each other. William Floyd was the first New Yorker to sign the
"Declaration of Independence" and the fourth. Various famous persons
(Madison and Jefferson, and others) visited the Floyd estate now maintained
by the Nationa Park Service as part of the Fire Island National Seashore,
the only Federal wolderness in New York State. The cemetery is along the
inlet known at the Forge River on which is also the Unkechauge Nation once
known as the Poospatuck. OPenings in in the barrier beach once made the
estate a trans-shipment point commerce. There is an online site maintained
by a local school.
