According to Dubal, and the liner notes of my Barere CD album, he died of
that stroke on the stage of Carnegie Hall in 1951 in mid-performance.
And singer Leonard Warren died on the Met stage during a performance of *La
Forza*. (He sang in the first opera I attended, *Traviata*, in which he
sang Giorgio Germont.)
