I'm no teacher of German, but do speak and read it daily, and Robert is
right. A hint, though, of ambiguity is lent by the use and placing of the
word "selbst"--which the German ear will understand, depending on context,
as meaning either "even" or "(one)self)". Here it almost certainly means
"even".
