In the New York Colony, anchor making was allowed around 1760 by the first
foundry in New York State by decree. Anchors found before in this region
would be before that date and made elswhere. New York harbor was sort of a
"service station" and innovated ways to preserve ship timbers (Captain Mork)
and provided service, sometimes ordered of the harbormaster to assist in the
repair and service of the British Royal Navy, in the early shipyards.
