This is because the specifications of the instrument can make a great
difference--how many manuals, how many ranks, how many stops, which stop on
which manual; is it a French-, German-, or English-style organ (reflected
by what names the stops and sections are given); is it an electropneumatic
or tracker action; how is it placed within the hall/church? All of these
questions can strongly influence the sound.  I would go so far as to say
that there is probably more variation between different instruments among
organs than with any other instrument, almost to the extent that the pipe
organ is less an instrument than a family of instruments.
