I take exception, on behalf of the surveyors in the engineering department
of my office to Jim's assertion that
>Throwing metric
>measurements at engineers in technical reports or at readers of
>newspaper and historical society journal articles mystifies rather than
>enlightens.
These surveyors have been making beautiful metric contour maps of
archaeological sites on the Chugach National Forest since 1993, and take
great pride in their ability to work in metric, or convert from metric to
English systems, or vice versa. Please don't underestimate a potential
audience!
I second Maureen's suggestion for making one's own scales - we've been
doing that at my office for the past five years or more.
