The DoD study was on temporary wooden buildings built for the mobilization
supposedly with a lifespan of 20 years. The "rationalization" for demolition
was an order by Congress in 1984 to have them all torn down by 1992. Many
are still in use and have been upgraded. FYI Point Reyes has a complete set
of the Naval buildings from the period.
