Fellow Histarchers:
William Boyne's (1857; revised through 1970) Trade Tokens Issued in the
Seventeenth Century in England, Wales, and Ireland, by Corporations,
Merchants, Tradesmen, Etc. (Burt Franklin, NY) is an authoritative
source on British tokens of all sorts.

The issuance of tokens continued into the 20th Century. Willard R.
Mumford's (2000) Strawberries, Peas & Beans: Truck Farming in Anne
Arundel County [Maryland, USA] is an excellent source, albeit for a very
small corner of the world, for information on picker checks, copper
alloy chits given to farm laborers for quantities of fruits and
vegetables harvested.
