This same issue came up in the recent flap over David Letterman replacing
Nightline. Audiences are equal in size, the Letterman audience is a bit
younger.
Some of the classical stations ditching classical music are NPR stations,
and the music is in many cases, replaced by NPR chitchat. Those wonderful
folks known as "consultants" are there to tell the station matters that
this is the RIGHT THING to do if they want to maximize donations to the
station. It's a bottom line society right now.
