Like Ron May, I head a voluteer excavation at a spiritual retreat
center (and I volunteer, myself). I find it very rewarding, and we
do quality work. Again, like Ron, my volunteers bring a great deal
of life experience with them and are usually *very* enthusiastic. I
must admit that work goes slow each season until the new volunteers
catch on, but most are very intelligent and need a minimum of
training before being trusted to do the job well. Admittedly, this
is different from using volunteers on a paid excavation, but my
experience has been very positive--and my volunteers must pay for the
privilage of coming to the retreat center!
