The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT)
is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of either
archaeology field assistant or archaeology assistant. Salary
range is from $2,684 to $3,442 per month. The position
will be filled at one of the two levels based upon the
successful applicant's qualifications.
The archaeology field assistant is responsible for assisting
in archaeological studies to identify, evaluate, or mitigate
impacts to archaeological resources encountered within
proposed transportation projects. This position also
conducts preliminary library or other document research,
assists in the processing of artifacts, and preparation of
material needed for the evaluation of historic structures.
The archaeology assistant is responsible for supervising,
or assisting in, archaeological studies to identify, evaluate,
or mitigate impacts to archaeological resources encountered
within proposed transportation projects. This position
also conducts analysis, basic research, and prepares
or assists in the preparation of technical reports.
Responsibilities for both positions are performed
under moderate supervision.
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or
university in anthropology, archaeology, or a related
field and knowledge of scientific archaeological
research is required for both positions. Both positions
also require regular, statewide, overnight travel. The
archaeology field assistant requires at least one season
of archaeological field experience. The archaeology
assistant requires at least 2 years of experience in
archaeological field studies. Experience in North
America or the Midwest is preferred.
