Fellow HISTARCHers,
Vergil is very eloquent in his explanation of the issues considered by the SHA
board in deliberating a dues increase. It is never a fun thing to do, and we
try to delay it as long as possible. It is also important to recognize that it
is not cheaper for the society for members to pay dues or purchase publications
by credit card -- the society is charged a certain percentage for each
transaction. The SHA board decided that this was an acceptable cost for
increased service and convenience of members, especially international members.
I encourage those of you who are SHA members and who may be less than fully
satisfied with the board's actions to let the board members know of your
concerns or serve as a candidate for board membership in next year's elections
(see my message coming to your e-mail in-box in a few moments on the results of
this year's elections).
