I've always believed that Satie chose the titles for his works, not because
they made any "sense," but because they looked nice.  Take "Three Pieces in
the Form of a Pear." What exactly is a "Gymnopedie?" Perhaps Satie chose
the names for his pieces to emphasize the fact that it is the music that is
important.
