I would agree with the recommendations for the Adkins and Adkins book as
well as for Brian Dillon's book. I would add to that a useful book called
"Drawing Archaeological Finds: A Handbook" by Nick Griffiths, Anne Jenner
and Christine Wilson.
You may also want to check out the online web page for The Association for
Archaeological Illustrators and Surveyors (www.aais.org). They have
publications available for order - one of which, if I remember correctly, is
a technical paper dealing with archaeologically recovered footwear.
Lastly, you may find Stuart Piggot's "Antiquity depicted : aspects of
archaeological illustration" or Lucile R. Addington's "Lithic illustration
: drawing flaked stone artifacts for publication" interesting, though
perhaps not for your current project.
To the best of my knowledge there are not any recent books on archaeological
illustration that take advantage of the wealth of computer hard and
software. If you search on the internet there are a few papers floating
around that incorporate some of the newer possibilites, but I haven't found
anything comprehensive. A new book is definitely in order!

Subject: Books on Artifact Illustration?

Hello,

My apologizes for cross-posting.

I wanted to see if anyone recommended a generalized
guide/book (or books) on artifact illustration.
Specifically, a colleague and I may need to draw some
perishable artifacts (e.g., textiles, basketry,
moccasins, and so forth), and we were curious as to
what books existed, and what were recommended.

Thanks, Ed
