I believe holding the suction for 3 minutes on that pump will do some nipple
damage. I believe the instructions for that particular pump state that you
hold for 6 seconds and release for 2 seconds. I have worked with quite a few
mothers with this particular pump and I believe one can do alot of damage
holding the suction on for 3 minutes. Kinda like giving yourself a hickey.
One needs to establish a rhythm with this pump and not hold the suction on
for long. It's like keeping a beat to music. Mom should do some prep before
pumping--like heat and massage before intiating pumping. Valerie W. McClain,
