Juozas Rimas quotes from an interview with Glenn Dicterow (NY Phil), then
writes:
>I don't understand how anyone who has listened to classical music and liked
>it can ever LOVE soft rock. Some Sinatra, Streisand, maybe some Beatles
>but, excuse me, "pop and soft rock"? And the subsequent miserable assurance
>that he's "not an old stick-in-the-mud" is really bad... I feel sorry for
>a musician who has to spend hours daily in contact with classical music
>that he compares to "mud".
>
>What is your opinion on this matter?
As we all know, music enjoyment is highly subjective. I see no conflict
with liking more than one genre of music. For example, I enjoy Wagner
opera, Mozart symphonies, and Bach anything, but I also enjoy Andy
Williams, John Williams (either one), Pam Tillis, and the list goes
on and on.
While I spend most of my time listening to classical music, I enjoy a side
excursion sometimes. On the other hand, I have no problem with someone who
wants to listen to classical music exclusively.
BTW, I don't think Mr. D. was applying the word "mud" to classical music.
