To me, at least, seeing the EMI Classics re-release of the 1953
Furtwangler-Philharmonia (RoH) "Tristan und Isolde" breaks a little
bit of the overwhelming sadness of the day.

I don't know it there has ever been a more consistently excellent cast
in the history of recording the work:  Flagstad, Thebom, Suthaus,
Fischer-Dieskau, Greindl, Schock!
