To Amy Smith:
On your contacting breastfeeders at home to see how things are going. First
of all, I think it is great. How else can we know if we are making a
difference with LCs in the hospital setting? But do you or your facility
have any legal problems? My facility nixed the idea of calling people back.
Stated we had to have written permission from each and every mother ahead of
time and the nursing staff would think that was too much work. I have been
pushing it for several months and only met with resistance from management.
We do track breastfeeding initiation (which is up to 76% by the way), but in
my way of thinking, that means little if they may all be quitting by 3 weeks.
Any way anybody has that may help my cause? Thanks.
