Very interesting news item on the national news here in Aus last night. A
research team in Adelaide has identified E Coli as being present in infants
who have died of SIDS. He is suggesting that there is a causative
link. His research is published in the Australian Medical Journal - i have
yet to read, just heard what was reported on the news.
A representative of the SIDS council basically denied that this could be a
cause and told everyone to keep sleeping their babies on their backs. The
researcher (no name, sorry, dh was talking!) wasn't sure what the link was
when the baby was on his tummy but felt it may have had something to do
with being delivered a higher toxin load (or something similar) to vital
organs in that position.
Now this may or may not be true - funnier things have happened. Remember
when that Aussie doctor told the world that gastric ulcers were caused by
bacteria and nobody would believe him!
Does anyone know a fluid that could be easily administered to babies that
has anti-e coli properties??
