Some years ago (three?) I heard Nanut conduct a concert at the Milan
conservatory.  He wasn't doing Mahler that evening but did very well on a
program of 19th century romantic music.  The group he was conducting was
from two sides of the border, Slovenia and Venezia Giulia.  Conductor and
band sounded properly like Habsburgland.
