BERMUDA HISTORICAL ARCHAEOLOGY FIELD SCHOOL
1 JULY-21 JULY 2002

Bristol University, in partnership with the Bermuda National Trust, are
delighted to announce a new historical archaeology field school in St
George, Bermuda 1 July -21 July 2002.

Bermuda was a key location in the development of the Atlantic world in the
17th and 18th centuries - and St George was founded in 1609, just two years
after Jamestown, Virginia. Two open area excavations will be carried out.
Field school participants will work alongside Bermudan students.

Participants will receive intensive training in the principles and practice
of historical archaeology and stratigraphic excavation in an urban context -
as well as a unique introduction to post medieval archaeology. The field
school fees are UKP 1050, including all accommodation, food, transport and
tuition for the 3 weeks. Academic credit is available. The project is
directed by Dan Hicks, Mark Horton and Paula Gardiner.

Full details of this and other forthcoming Bristol University field schools
are online at http://website.lineone.net/~field-school/
