During our fieldschool at Middleburg Plantation, Leland Ferguson used a
mason's trowel with what looked like a 12-inch blade. It actually worked
quite well in the sandy soils we were excavating--faster than the standard
size trowel and much more precise than a shovel. Don't know what brand,
though.
