I would disagree with the above statement.  Whatever composers and musical
period you want to start out with is just as valid as any other composers
or musical periods.

Don't let someone change your mind.  Too many new listeners get mired down
forever in the "great masters" and never make it to the century we have so
recently left.

Stick with your list.  Plenty of time later to reach back to the past and
enjoy and understand what shaped and influenced 20th century music.
