Captain Corelli's Mandolin
Music from the Motion Picture
Original Music Composed By Stephen Warbeck
Enhanced CD Includes Two Songs And An Exclusive Music Video
By "The Voice" Russell Watson
CD Released August 7, 2001 On Decca Records

(New York, NY, July 30, 2001) - The beautiful but harrowing love story
of Captain Corelli's Mandolin, directed by Academy Award-winner John
Madden (Shakespeare In Love), opens August 17 in theaters throughout the
country. The Decca soundtrack album will be released August 7 and features
the beautiful score by Academy Award- winning composer Stephen Warbeck
(Shakespeare In Love). Warbeck, one of Britain's most successful film and
television composers, has scored more than 40 movies and television dramas.
His recent works include the Academy Award-nominated Billy Elliot and
Quills.

The score which captures the dramatic scope of the story and mirrors the
sweeping themes of the movie also includes two songs performed by Decca
recording artist Russell Watson, the British singing sensation whose debut
album "The Voice" has sold over one million units worldwide. As a bonus,
this enhanced CD soundtrack includes Watson's music video to "Ricordo Ancor
(Pelagia's Song)" - the theme to Captain Corelli's Mandolin. Dubbed by
critics as the top tenor of his generation, Watson has made chart history
with the biggest debut release ever by a British male classical artist.
"The Voice" has been #1 on Billboard's Classical Crossover chart since its
release in April and has also reached #2 on the Top New Artist chart and
#91 on the Top Current Albums chart.

Captain Corelli's Mandolin stars Nicolas Cage as the romantic, jovial
and mandolin playing Italian captain stationed on the Greek island of
Cephallonia during World War II. His eye is immediately caught by Pelagia
(Penelope Cruz), and he is billeted to stay at her house with her father,
Dr. Lannis (John Hurt). While he tries to endear himself to his hosts,
it becomes clear that Pelagia is already spoken for by Mandras (Christian
Bale). The love story is played out against the backdrop of war and the
eventual German occupation of the island. The war weary Italians are
eventually drawn to the side of the Greek patriots - resulting in brutal
retribution.
