Today is the 100th birthday of Gerald Finzi. Finzi was a British composer,
author, and outdoorsman. He left fewer than 50 works, many of which
are choral or solo vocal in nature. On my radio show Tuesday, I'll be
presenting the 5 bagatelles arranged for flute and piano, the song-cycle
Dies Natalis, the delightful Clarinet Concerto, the eclogue for piano and
strings, a song set to Shakespeare and a Magnificat. We'll end with his
Cello Concerto -- if I can find a copy of it, played by Raphael Wallfisch.
Any opinions on his work?
Susan
