Well, this question did seem to produce some strong opinions and I admire
people with convictions.  Thanks to all.  I did take a music appreciation
class in college, many years ago, which taught me a few things.  The book
I bought was/is quite entertaining.  Building a classical music collection
is a demanding pastime and I can't say I've progressed far.  I hold down
a full time professional job, so, this is not front/center (building the
collection).  I also maintain a sfh and that can be a distraction.  We have
a great station locally 103.5 FM that I listen to on a regular basis.  I am
mainly allowing this source to entertain and educate me, though I do go to
the Phillips and listen to live concerts as time and schedule allows, but
only when piano is the featured instrument.  If I hear about an interesting
classical firm being shown, that can take precedence.  With time and
continuing posts into my inbox I believe there is hope for me yet.
Having grown up without the requirement/choice to play an instrument
(parents/teachers never brought it up--unfortunately) I feel that I am
coming to this with a bit of a steeper hill than some.  Still, the thirst
to know is there and the pleasure of the musical spectrum is real.
