Greetings:
I am trying to find information for a mom who has been using Ativan daily
for about 11 months (the baby is now 13 months). The usual doseage has
been 1.5 mg/day for most of that time, with occasional use of 3 mg a day.
She had previously been told that this regimen and doseage amount would be
no problem, in fact at that doseage would probably not even get into the
milk in any clinically significant amounts. The problem is that now the
health care professionals are suddenly telling her that this is a "high"
dose and that she never should have taken it every day. She is dealing
with anxiety with some depression. This is her fifth child and she has
used Ativan somewhat more occasionally in the past and has never heard that
every day use could be a problem. She is understandably worried now that
having done this for the last eleven months could have harmed her baby. I
checked out what I could on Tom Hale's site and could not find out anything
reassuring about the chronic use of this drug at this dose and the effects
it might have on the baby. She is not comfortable with SSRI's, having
tried them in the past without success. She prefers to have something that
clears the body sooner and does not accumulate. Anything those
knowledgable in this area could contribute would be very much appreciated.
Thank you,
Betsy Koval LLL Grand Ledge, MI
