Another thing I've noticed in the very early newborn period is that if mom
arbitrarily (clock watching :-) decides that it is time for baby to stop on
one side and change sides, the baby simply sleeps and won't resume nursing.
Of course then baby wakes 1/2 hr or so later and is ready to eat again,
but it's TOO SOON (right?).
This sort of all goes back to finish the first side first concept. I
wonder why people can't trust the baby to know, why they have to meddle
(program), follow rules etc. It goes back to that beginner thing - they
need rules to follow. Unfortunately there are plenty of HCPs(nursing staff,
drs) who are willing to give rules out of their own inexperience/lack of
knowledge. Like Carol I try to give parents mental pictures so they "get
it." Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
