Thanks for your note. I have forwarded your e-mail to Keith Tolman, curator at
Fort Towson, who uncovered the Whittenbury material at LSU. I've also forwarded
it to Annalies Corbin, who is coordinating other aspects of historical research
for the project. Keith may have some additional information that I am not
familiar with. Whittenbury's reminiscences were published as a series of
letters in the Cincinnati Commercial newspaper in 1870-71. They are held in the
archival collections of LSU-Shreveport. We know of two boats he commanded on
the Red River, RELIEF in 1841 and LLAMA in 1845.
Hopefully we will be able to complement each other's knowledge of the good
captain.
