I have been a member of the SHA since 1974 (only missed a couple of years
due to address changes) so I sure as blazes am going to put in my two cents
worth. In the last 27-28 years, it has been my experience that the 3
most important positions in the SHA are the Secetary/Treasuer, the Journal
editor, and the Newsletter Editor. They have always been the backbone of
the organization. If it comes to a matter of money, they should be paid to
go to the Board Meetings and let the other Board Members pay for
themselves.

Having the editor positons being appointed by the board reduces the risk
that an unqualified or nonproductive person gets elected to the position.
As to wether or not they should have a vote really depends on the
Constitution and By-Laws. If that does not prevent it, I am greatly in
favor those position having an equal vote on the board.
