Paul B. Manning is the founder and CEO of PBM Products and is quoted in a
September 26, 1999 New York Times article called "Formula Fight: Generic Vs.
The Giants." He talks about his upcoming attendance at the American Academy
of Pediatricians Conference in Washington. He states in the article that
"we're going to hit the pediatricians hard."
The article also states that physicians are worried about the rise of generic
formulas which could deplete funds for research. The article says that
formula studies are performed by manufacturers themselves and through grants
to physicians, hospitals and the American Academy of Pediatricians. Anyway a
great website to get some background information. That is if you can stomach
some of the comments such as a Mead Johnson spokesman who makes a rebuttal in
regard to formula being overpriced. Saying that it's less than a Happy Meal
and that at no time in an infant's life can you feed a child for so little.
Or the discussion that formula makers rely mainly on "ethical marketing."
Which is followed by an explanation of that concept which among other things
involves giving docs and new parents gifts. Gagging after writing
