The symphonies, some of them sounding very like Shostakovich, have been
recorded by Supraphon. I have two of these: Nos 3 and 5 (11 2161-2,
52:41) is the more interesting of them, IMO; Nos 4 and 6 (11 2162-2, 65')
include singers. I also have #2 on Arte Nova (74321 27802-2, 71:02) which
is coupled with Ogelala, a jazz-influenced ballet and the most substantial
item on the CD, and a Suite for Orchestra. For toe-dipping, I'd go for the
3rd and 5th symphonies. A well-filled CD called Tanz Grotesk in Decca
(London's) Entartete Musik series (D 112662, 78:14) contains Schulhoff's
Moonstruck, Schreker's The Birthday of the Infanta, and Hindemith's The
Demon. I also like Schulhoff's second Piano Concerto, but I'm not sure
whether this is still available.
