Richard Pennycuick beats me to the punch with his praise of the Kempe
Strauss, which is revelatory if you've spent much of your Strauss diet on
von Karajan's syrupy orchestral textures.  The Metamorphosen seems to have
an edge no other recording has, a result no doubt of the players having
lived through the events that inspired it.
