Ben,
Al Beauregard conducted a Phase III excavation (and I helped!) at the
rural Hobart Tannery near Penn Yan, NY, in the early 1980s. That site
dates, if memory serves, to the early 19th century; perhaps second
quarter. The report, and his thesis, are at the Public Archeology
Facility at Binghamton University. Also at that repository is Dan
Cassedy's work on a late 19th/early 20th century tannery in Upper Lisle
(?), north of Binghamton, conducted in the mid-1980s. LuAnn Wurst may
have done some work on the domestic component of the later tannery site,
or sites, for PAF and the Department's field school. To get access to
these reports, try Dr. Nina Versaggi: [log in to unmask]
