Dear All, I heard on the grapevine that Classic CD has ceased publication.
Is this true?

It was the first classical music magazine to offer a cover CD. At
first the reviews were interesting. I especially liked those by Dr Tanner
(I will never forget his review of the Solti Ring Cycle in Classic CD:
"hideous disfiguring travesty" "brass blows to the point of farting"
"shapeless ruin" "forces Hotter [the Wotan] to wobble uncontrollably".)

I also have fond affection for some of their building a classical CD
library choices and the layout of this section which compared the top 5
or so recordings in some depth. The front cover CD was a clever marketing
ploy for the companies and I for one bought a recording based on the
snippet on the CD. Classic CD blazed a trial that seemed to influence
the other classical magazines.

However, from a promising start things seemed to go downhill. Reviews
became much shorter and the latest layout was simply dire. There were
too many articles featuring Callas and "the greatest Cds ever" etc.

I would not be surprised if the publishers have pulled the plug.

BTW, does anyone know the web addresses for Fanfare or ARG?
