In 1997 I wrote a review for the Dutch counterpart of the Gramophone,
called 'Luister' about this box set, but have to say I didn't listen
much to it after that days. But here some information, taken from my
own review. I will put it in the player again... Hope this will help?
De Severac (1872 - 1921) lived a ritered life in the French region
Languedoc. He studied in Paris, coached by d'Indy and Magnard, but after
three years he returned to his native soil, and composed only when he was
minded to. Nevertheless, his compositions are visionary. You will find a
lot similarity with the music of Debussy, but De Severac put a lot elements
of folkmusic in it also. In general his piano music is impressionistic,
and a very good follow up for lovers of the piano works of Debussy. The
playing of Ciccolini (normally not the most poetic pianist) is a feast for
the ears. His playing here is very poetic and retiring. I hope a lot of
music lovers will discover this set of recordings, made between 1968 and
1977.
